the NIX stop: Paradise Dynasty at S Maison, Conrad and the 8 ColoredXiao Long Bao
I was in Paradise Dynasty in S Maison, Conrad Hotel a couple of weeks ago. Although very famous for their Chinese cusine and the 8-colored Xiao Long Bao, I found that there are also many other dishes to rave about in this place. Aside from dumplings, they have an awesome Stir-Fried Beef with Kai Lan, yummy Spicy Spicy Szechuan Crispy Chicken and Glutious Rice Dates that are perfect for your kids. Also, you can ask them to adjust the spice level of some dishes. :D
I've never really tried Xiao Long Bao until the day I stepped in Paradise Dynasty in S Maison. All I know is that their Xiao Long Bao is a big deal because they have other flavored infused in theirs aside from the original. I thought it was just an ordinary dumpling that you dip in some sauce and vinegar.
But boy was I wrong on so many levels. A Xiao Long Bao is a dumpling with very light and delicate skin and yet holds not only meat inside but soup as well. The way to eat a Xiao Long Bao would be to put it in the spoon, bite/poke the dumpling and pour the soup out. Afterwards, you eat the Xiao Long Bao by dipping it with some vinegar sauce with strips of ginger, or as a first time eater, eat it all on it's own to appreciate the true flavors of Xiao Long Bao.
Paradise Dynasty's Signature Original Xiao Long Bao sells for 188Php (6 pcs) and 298Php for 10 pcs. With the taste that this has, the price is sulit for the quality and quantity. Rice + Xiao Long Bao = Lunch na agad! hahaha!
But WAIT! There's MORE! *hears this in a "as seen on TV" ad voice. :D *
This 8 colored Xiao Long Bao of Paradise Dynasty is the star of the restaurant. The goodness of the usual dumplings have been infused with different flavors, and this 8 colored one serves a a sampler of sorts. The reccomended way of eating said dish is to start from the lightest color with the delicate flavors(green for ginseng) and end with the darker colored one with the most robust flavor(Szechuan style).
This is Paradise Dynasty Raddish Pastry (138Php 3pcs). I never thought I would see the day where I would think of a dish as "French" but it would turn out to Chinese. It's very flaky, served as hot as our coffee (so better to half it up before biting into the thing) and the inside is pure Raddish. I don't usually eat raddish but this one I can probably eat up to 20 pcs for merienda. It's that good! <3
This is their Pan-fried Shanghai Pork Bun. It's different from the usual fried siopao, this one is more like the Xiao Long Bao because it has soup inside. Very savory too!
Jellyfish is one of the Chinese dishes that I LOVE to bits. It's not slimy, let me tell you, rather it is very crunchy, much like how you would bite off a baby asparagus. Paradise Dynasty serves their Chilled Jellyfish and Seafood in Vinaigrette and for someone who loves Jellyfish, I am loving the hot and cold that I get with this dish! <3
Chilled Jellyfish and seafood in vinaigrette
PHP 250
Sliced Beef and Tripe in Spicy Szechuan Sauce. The tripe and the beef is so tender, but for the Szechuan sauce I guess it really is just not my flavor. I like spicy hot food but spicy because of curry or any other spice that's strong to the smell I can't tolerate. So true chinese cusine lovers might love this but for me it's ok.
Steamed Glutinous Rice Stuffed in Red Dates (230Php) is said to be an appetizer, but I like to think of it as something that will save you from the spiciness of the Szechuan flavored stuff. It's really chewy, silky and sweet.

Spicy Szechuan Crispy Chicken. This is NOT SPICY HOT. I guess it's more 'spiced' but not burning hot... The chicken is awesome because it's crispy and yet moist inside! <3.

Stir-fried beef with Kai Lan(388Php) is <3. It's something that will definitely be enjoyed by the kids along with their Fried Rice :D
Poached beef in Szechuan chili oil (688 Php) has flavors similar to the Crispy chicken, except this is in soup-ish form, with lots of pig's innards, meats and LOTS of Chili. Azrael of Azrael's merryland blog says that this is Authentic and with that, kudos to Paradise Dynasty for delivering an authentic and great chinese dish :D
Stir fried La Mian with Shredded Pork and Black Fungus (238Php)
I am always on the look out for great noodles, and I also love tengang daga or black fungus. This is just a great tasting dish overall, and the texture of the noodles is pretty exceptional. It's very different than what's in other restaurants and it's a great thing. :D
Glutinous rice ball topped with grated nuts( 138Php for 4pcs )-- This has black sesame paste inside, and it tastes in between an awesome tikoy and buchi. :D
I'm definitely coming back here if I want to have authentic chinese food without going over my budget. <3 Also, I still have to check out their noodles and I want MORE of that jellyfish soooo <3
