Love your Nerves| A talk on Nerve Damage, Peripheral Neuropathy and how to CURE it
So, when I came home to my mom just last week, I learned that she's been having this "trigger" finger wherein sometimes her ring finger would get stuck closed and it is quite painful to stretch or straighten it out. Other days her whole hand would become numb or ngalay, with this tingling sensation all over her right hand. And when I went to this talk on Peripheral Neuropathy by Merck, I think I know what is happening to my mom...
And it may be happening to you too.
And it may be happening to you too.
What is Peripheral Neuropathy?
Peripheral Neuropathy is this disorder that affects nerves, impairing them in their function of
transmitting information and potentially affecting millions of people
worldwide. It happens when our nerves or nerve endings are damaged, either from too much use /routine or from a deficiency of B Vitamins.
The nerves are one of the most important parts of our body that is usually neglected. Which is sad because what work can we accomplish if we can't even command our body properly on what we want to do yeah? But much like any other illness, we only double check what's happening to our body when we sense something is off pretty bad.
The study on Peripheral Neuropathy
This study was headed by Dr. Rizaldy Pinzon, who is a half-Filipino neurologist from Bethesda Hospital in Indonesia. His
current research is on the field of Diabetic Neuropathy, with his most recent
article published this year on the Asian Journal of Medical Science. It is
entitled, “Management of Peripheral Neuropathy Symptoms with a fixed
dose combination of High Dose B1, B6, and B12: A 12-week prospective
non-interventional study in Indonesia.”
So that was super technical, but here's a little summary for you below:

What are the symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy?
Peripheral Neuropathy can cause various body discomforts such as:
- tingling
- increased or decreased sensitivity to vibration
- increased or decreased sensitivity to hot or cold
- numbness
- muscle weakness
- burning pain
Symptoms of peripheral neuropathy can seem innocuous but have an impact of the patients' well-being and their quality of life. Early detection and treatment are crucial as well as effective treatment options, which relieve patients from their symptoms without having to suffer from significant side effects.
Who are at risk of Peripheral Neuropathy?
Dr. Pinzon mentioned during his talk that those who spend prolonged hours on the computer also are at risk, naming Carpal Tunnel Syndrom (CTS), being one of the manifestations of Peripheral Neuropathy. But I think it is due to a specific routine, and in my mom's case, it would be doing too much handwashing laundry. She likes doing that chore with handwashing cause she says it cares for the clothes more, but I think a routine like that coupled with genetics or a chronic disease made her at risk for peripheral neuropathy or worse, CTS.
How can we treat Peripheral Neuropathy?
Here I am being tested if I have any abnormalities when it came to perceiving low and high vibrations and coolness/hotness. Apparently I'm healthy as a horse with my nerve endings. |
In the study of Dr. Rizaldy Pinzon, he noted that:
an increase in Neurotropic B vitamins combination has been proven effectively for peripheral neuropathy sufferers in relieving symptoms, which have been included into the study independently from the cause of their disease. The symptoms were even more reduced over longer duration of treatment (for a 3 months period tested) and the treatment was well tolerated.
As we asked on the Q-and-A though, he noted that the B Vitamins is to be administered once daily, and any dosage higher than that should still be double checked with your doctor. Also, he noted that you should tell your doctor if you're feeling any of the symptoms I mentioned above, so that you can still reverse it especially at the early stages.
Neurobion is the nerve care expert from Merck Consumer Health was first launched in the Philippines in July 1972 and is now the world's no. 1 in neurotropic B vitamins combination products. It is safe to be taken with any other medication you may have, either for diabetes or for your kidneys, and yes, we asked the experts over at Merck and Dr. Rizaldy about that.
Neurotropic B vitamins are vitamins exerting their benefits on the health of the nervous system. They have an important role in nourishing enriching and helping to regenerate nerves in those who suffer compromised nerve health or peripheral neuropathy.
Neurobion Tablet and Neurobion Forte Tablet is available over the counter while Neurobion Forte Solution for Injection is available by prescription.
Guess all I can say is we really have to have daily check ups, and report any pain/weird thing happening to our body to our doctor. And remember to...

Very informative session you had attended. Wish I have attended this similar session too. Nerve really important as I recently got my neck nerve injured from not proper sleeping posture. Thanks for sharing this useful info here. Cheers, siennylovesdrawing
