King of Komiks Francisco V. Coching Exhibit is now open at SM Aura
Komiks (comics) n:
- a tribute to the man who revolutionized graphic art: Mr. Francisco V. Coching, National Artist for Visual Arts.
- a medium of art wherein ideas and stories are expressed by images, often combined with text or other visual information, spelled in tagalog.
We will not have the pinoy comics we know of today if it were not for some of the pillars of the Philippine Komiks Industry. Francisco V. Coching was recognized as Philippine National Artist for Visual Arts last 2014 for mesmerizing his readers with fine fluid lines, dramatic compositions and unusual perspectives. Adding to that are plots simmering with action, adventure and fantasy that is rooted in our pinoy lore and legends.
He was so good that most of his fine comic work are rendered as well into films as seen below.
His work actually succeeded in bridging the gap between fine art and popular art, with his art style being emulated by countless artists in contemporary art, painting and animation.
In celebration of F. V. Coching's centenial year and his contributions in Pinoy Art as we see today, SM Aura Premier, with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts proudly presents National Artist for Visual Arts and King of Comics: Francisco V. Coching’s Centennial Exhibit. The exhibit will run from February 18-24, 2019 at the Upper Ground Floor Atrium, SM Aura Premier.
