Creative Edvision Projects for Kids: DIY Lava Lamp
Online School has started in our area, but with the restriction of the kids not going outside for six months and counting, even that was not enough to ease the cabin fever of my kids. So it was nice that I chanced upon this facebook page by Lenovo Edvision that offered some awesome kids activities as well as a few programs and webinars to help the non techie parents and teachers with their kids transition to online schools.
I'll explain more about what programs they have in the upcoming days as I try some out for myself as well, but for now let me share this fantastic STEM at Home activity that I saw on the Lenovo Edvision page. You can follow them at the link below if you want to try out more cool stuff like this with the kids!
At Home Lava Lamp with Lenovo Edvision
Jenae was really excited to try this one out for herself. The activity starts with some cooking oil, water, food coloring, a bottle and some effervescent tablets. We watched the video tutorial which explained how the lava lamp is much like how innovation happens at the Lenovo office, a mix of different thoughts or substances which creates something cool, awesome and entirely new.
It is an advanced science experiment, but I just explained to my daughter that this is all about her own science lesson in grade 3. Which is on the properties of matter- the different weights of different substances.
Best part is that most of the items needed for the STEM at Home activities are things already in our house.
I
did have to sub some stuff out, and used my vitamin c effervescent
drink in berry flavor to act as the tablet and the food coloring to be
mixed with water. I didn't have food coloring at home so this is a
convenient substitute.
The smile and wonder on her face though was really priceless. Even I was amazed as it was such a long time since I did a science activity of sorts. This was like science and arts in one.
So we got science, and we also got some quarantine boredom out of the way with Lenovo Edvision!
We also got a really cool background photo for her next online class out of it. :D
What is Lenovo Edvision about?
From what I have seen on the page, Lenovo teamed up with Microsoft to help prepare students and teachers and the whole education community with online education through accelerated digital transformation. Which is something that we need right now during these tough times.
What we are doing right now is remote learning, and with two highly established companies known for boosting the workforce productivity levels with their different known software, and Lenovo's trusted hardware, I'm really excited to check out what Lenovo Edvision has to offer. Not just to schools, students and teachers but to us parents as well. The STEM at Home activites are a start- but there are definitely more things to check out in this page.
So like and follow Lenovo Edvision here and get ready to unlock limitless learning with Lenovo and Microsoft.
