Suijin Japanese Restaurant 酔仁 – Authentic and Affordable Japanese Flavors

Japanese food is something that gives comfort for me and my family. Authentic tasting Sashimi or Karaage, a nice hot bowl of ramen or Katsu gives me the same feeling of traveling again to Japan. We've been to Japan before. And ever since I have been introduced to what an authentic Japanese dish tastes like, it was difficult for me to find something even close to that while still being affordable. I have found a restaurant over in the south that is as authentic as you can get, while being easy on the budget.

Suijin Japanese Restaurant features authentic Japanese food, with the Head Chef and Sous Chef being Japanese, and they definitely know their stuff. While I am featuring solo dishes here, you can find that they have lunch set dishes on a promo price below.

The Food

We started out with slices of Salmon Sashimi, and these are certainly fresh! You get a pleasant and rich texture, and a bit of flavor. The known way of eating these as described by our Japanese friend a couple of years ago was to put the wasabi on top of the fish. The spiciness of Wasabi enhances the fresh flavor of Sashimi. Then you dip a bit of soy sauce and enjoy!

Next up was Shio Saba, which is traditional grilled mackerel. It has a nice smoked taste, and the lemon wedge that you add on top adds a bit of nice balance to the taste. Certainly nice to eat with a bit of rice and miso soup. I think you can also find this served as a traditional breakfast set when you stay in Ryokans in Japan.

Tonjiru is a hearty version of Miso Soup. You can opt for the normal Miso Soup as a light addition to your meal, or go all out with their Tonjiru that has pork and vegetables added in. Very flavorful, and undoubtedly authentic.

Karaage in japanese means fried. Although today it is a staple classic "chicken dish" when it comes to japanese food. What Suijin has is Tori no Karaage, which directly translates to fried chicken. I am pretty sure that it has something to do with how Japanese prepare this, but they are always crispy and light but juicy on the inside. You're getting around 8 to 10 pieces of this beauty in a plate, which is definitely yummy and affordable for its price.

They also have something for the whole family of for friendships- Temaki Sushi. It translates to “hand roll sushi” because it is made of a rolled cone of seaweed, wrapped around rice and fillings. A DIY Japanese dish, that features fresh slices of tuna and salmon, crabsticks, cucumber, tuna mayo and tamago.
