Refresh Microtherapy: Yes to Well Balanced Skin, Oily Skin No More!
Oily skin—we’ve dealt with it for so long. We all just want to look fresh and dewy, not greasy especially in photos. I've dealt with it too growing up until today, with the oily parts of my face also having pores so big I can rent them out as apartments LOL. But really, oily is a skin type, not a condition, so we’ve always thought that we just had to deal with it.
But technology today has really moved forward, it’s 2022 and science may just have thrown us a bone. Refresh Microtherapy now exists, and this treatment claims to be able to tighten pores and significantly reduce oiliness, keeping all that grease and acne at bay.
Ready to have poreless, refined, and radiantly glowy skin of your dreams? Then keep reading.
What is Refresh Microtherapy?
Refresh Microtherapy is an in-clinic treatment that involves the use of a 24-karat gold microneedling device to deliver a specially mixed cocktail deep into the skin. The cocktail is a special mix of a growth factor, neurotoxins, and non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid. Let’s get into each component to understand how they help.
I'll be sharing my experience as well, since this treatment is what was recommended for me to address my skin concerns. It has to do with the random pimples popping up over at the oily part of my face, the large apartment pores that I'm having on my nose, and the growing crow's feet by my eyes.
Growth Factor
Growth factors are skin rejuvenating ingredients that help stimulate tissue regeneration and renewal. Growth factors can actually be found in our own platelet-rich plasma or more commonly known as PRP.
For the Refresh Microtherapy treatment, a sample of blood is drawn and put into a centrifuge in order to extract the PRP, which is then mixed into the cocktail.
Neurotoxins
Colloquially known as Botox, neurotoxins are commonly injected into patients to preserve structure, smooth wrinkles, and lift the skin.
It functions through temporary muscle paralysis, but can also inhibit endocrine activity, a.k.a. overproduction of sweat or sebum. You’ll commonly hear of Botox being used to help inhibit excessive sweating on the hands, face, and armpits.
In the case of Refresh Microtherapy, neurotoxins are added into the cocktail to decrease sebum production—the decrease in sebum leads to the reduction of acne and the visible shinkage of pores.
Non-Cross Linked Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is a common hydrating skincare ingredient. It is everywhere in our skincare routine. When it is cross-linked, it usually retains volume and stays in place when injected, which is why it’s a common ingredient for dermal fillers.
Non-cross linked hyaluronic acid, however, flows around the dermis, plumping the skin and softening lines. The delivery of non-cross linked hyaluronic acid into the skin gives the skin a healthy, radiant glow.
This special cocktail with these three ingredients regulates sweat and sebum production, resulting in a reduction in sebum and acne as well as visible pore tightening.
It also visibly improves the sheen of the skin and gives it a radiant glow without the grease. It also aids in the regulation of melanin for more even skin tone and the restoration and regeneration of collagen for added plumpness.
Overall results and experience with Refresh Microtherapy:
Best part about this is that there is almost no downtime. In my case, I just had to make sure to not wet my face for around 4 hours, and enjoy the glowing results the next day. I even got to swim two days after without any hiccups- just slathered on a really strong sunscreen with a high SPF to especially help protect my face.
And until now I am enjoying how calm my skin is, there's no weird acne pop ups even with all the mask wearing and sweat, and the best part is that there is a certain radiant glow happening to my face now. It also looks more lifted in photos, and that's saying something as based on this photo- I am younger and "whiter" here but when you compare it to my photos after the refresh micrococktail, my face is just glowing!
