A Relaxing Vacation with a View in Taal Vista Hotel

Taal volcano's views are simply majestic. The allure of seeing the smallest active volcano in the world so close is one of the main reasons why most of us do getaways to Tagaytay, along with the cool breeze. But can you imagine waking up to this view, by your veranda? That is a whole other exhilarating experience that I got to have when we stayed at Taal Vista Hotel.

Taal Vista Hotel, a four-star establishment in Tagaytay was constructed in the 1930s. Its name literally translates to "Taal View" and it definitely offers the best view of Taal lake and it's volcano. It is recognized as one of the city's historic hotels, 2nd oldest to Manila Hotel and has remarkably weathered volcanic eruptions, the most recent last January 2020.

I got t stay here for 3 days with a couple of content creator friends and the experience was definitely one for the books. Here's my review of Taal Vista Hotel.

Taal Vista Hotel Room Tour

Once you enter their lobby, you will be greeted with a mountain lodge facade with a picture window for looking out to the lake. There are two main wings for their rooms. One is their Mountain Wing, and the other is the Lake wing which houses their rooms overlooking the Taal Volcano and lake.

Our room was situated on the 4th floor of said wing, and since you are staying here for the views, I suggest requesting for a room on the 3rd or fourth floor. We got a Premium Queen room with two queen sized beds, perfect for a family or friends getaway.

There was a nice basket of fresh fruits on the dresser, along with a small chocolate cake with a welcome message for us. Their TV also had the same message and is also where you can access other things like room service menu among others.

The bathroom was spacious and had a three piece countertop, hot and cold shower and water closet, complete with toiletries and towels.

They also have a safe, tea and coffee area in the dresser and mini fridge to store your food. They have an advocacy for sustainability, which is why they provided a couple of glasses, and a pitcher which you can fill yourself with water from the dispensers on the hallway. This way, they can reduce plastic use as much as possible.

The beds are really comfy, the room was bright and everything was clean and relaxing. Coupled with the light coming in from the big veranda in your room, you are sure that a calming rest is right around the corner.

One of the best parts of our stay for me was the fact that we can just watch the rise and fall of the clouds, the fog coming and going. Some mornings you wake up with just fog and mist outside, slowly turning into the beautiful scenery of Taal Lake.

We mostly did nothing but rest and eat on or stay here, which is a great way to recharge our metal focus. The good thing about going to Tagaytay is you don't have that much of a long drive to think about since it is just an hour or two away from Manila, and that's if it is traffic.

Dining in Taal Vista Hotel

The Veranda

Breakfasts at Taal Vista Hotel is situated at The Veranda, where you can find an array of Filipino dishes and some american breakfast as well as fresh, in season vegetable and fruit salads. I can live off their radish and lettuce with balsamic vinegar, corned beef along with that super yummy hot chocolate in the mornings.

And when you time it right, there's a trio of musicians who are ready to serenade you while eating. I was pretty impressed that they can do a variety of things, from old goodies of the 80's to the modern tunes of Raining in Manila and Ed Sheeran songs of today. Definitely made us feel luxe and kilig, what a way to start your day right?

Taza Fresh Table

Their advocacy to sustainability is also reflected with their other restaurant, Taza Fresh Table. They offer fresh, delicious dishes, with ingredients sourced from the hotel’s very own garden and the local market. We had lunch and dinner with their dishes and I was so in love with the Tomahawk Porkchops and the Mushroom and Spinach Maltagliati with a truffle based pasta sauce.

They also served some interesting desserts, but the best for me was the Tropical Halo-Halo filled full of ube along with ube ice cream and a large slice of flan, served in coconut shells. The size is perfect for sharing for two people.

In Room dining

We also had the in-room dining specials, which is a set menu good for four people and comes with Tudor the teddy bear! Pizza and the Bolognaise Pasta are really top notch, and this is perfect if you don't want to leave the comforts of your own room, or dine with a view by your balcony.

More things to do at and around Taal Vista Hotel

Taal Vista Hotel is also a great place to celebrate big or small events as they have several function rooms, and some of them even feature a view since one of them is near the lake wing. You can also shop for local items here since they have Kultura.

History Tour of Taal Vista Hotel

Or you can try out their one hour tour where you can get little tidbits about Taal Vista Hotel. There is a dedicated wall for the evolution of Taal Lodge to what it is known as today, about how we came about with new freshwater species of sardines and other fishes, now known to be tawilis. And how Taal, and  general mountains surrounding it could have been the remnants of a giant volcano twice the size of Mayon Volcano in Albay.

Relaxing Spa Days in Rain Spa

They also have a gym, a pool where you can take a dip (if the weather is fine) and a luxurious spa. Definitely a big check for any guest who wants to relax after a long day. We also had a lot of fun doing their one hour awaken the senses massage in Tal Vista Hotel's Spa, Rain.

Walkable places like Skyranch

The place is also a five-minute walk away from Sky Ranch, which makes this place the ultimate getaway place in Tagaytay. Best part for me is that it is a couple of minutes away from my favorite restaurant, Klara's so when you check out, you also have the option to have your lunch there.

Taal Vista Hotel Room Rates

You can book your stay for Taal Vista Hotel via their website and socials on facebook or instagram, or various booking websites like Agoda or Klook. They have great deals up on their website, with rooms starting at 5,500 for a superior room for starters.

Our room, being in the lake wing, costs for around 11,500 per night, but since this is a 4 star hotel with great service, rooms and that majestic view, I find it reasonable, much like how 4 star hotels are priced here in Manila.

Overall thoughts on Taal Vista Hotel

Did I mention that they have a legit fireplace in the lobby? They light it up at night, so you can warm up if ever the nights are too cold in Tagaytay.

Checking in, and checking out were quick and hassle-free. Breakfasts at The Veranda was how I remembered ito be during my childhood years, with their morning hot chocolate being the best start to a great morning coupled with the view of Taal. The service was really attentive, I loved the serenades that they did during our breakfast. The staff, up to the guards outside were hospitable and welcoming, always willing to answer questions and satisfy requests whenever possible.

The rooms are really nice, relaxing and modern. It was a treat to do a bit of work while watching the clouds roll by outside. You definitely have to try as well their spa, they have an awesome masseuse and the foodie in me is very happy with their different restaurants that cater to fresh, farm to table meals. Can't wait to be back here again!
