A piece of home in Sotogrande Palawan

Puerto Princesa City, the capital of Palawan, is the designated gateway to a treasure trove of rich biodiversity, with known attractions like Honda Bay and the Puerto Princesa Underground River to name a few. The name actually originates to Spanish times, known as "Port of the Princess". 

Weather you are here for a brief getaway, you should consider staying for a couple of days to explore the city and its nearby beaches. 

One place you can stay, especially if you are dedicated to doing a Honda Bay tour, or maybe even just going to the Underground River is Sotogrande Palawan. This three star hotel is located in Catalina Lake Residences, just a short 20 minute drive from the airport and 1 km away from  Honda Bay.

Opened August 2024, I got invited as part of the media to see SotoGrande Palawan and its grand opening. Owned by Sta. Lucia Inc. and managed by Enderun Hotels, it is now the newest member of Puerto Princesa's expanding hospitality sector, officially welcoming tourists, catering to both leisure and business travelers.

SotoGrande Palawan features a contemporary Neapolitan design noticeable from their front desk to the rooms. They currently have 147 rooms available in Standard, Deluxe and One Bedroom Suite. This is a place you can stay when you want to do a quiet staycation, as their main goal is a feel at home setting, in a cozy but modern manner.

All of the rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, safety deposit box, mini fridge, writing desk with chair, and facilities for making coffee or tea. The bathrooms are fitted with hot and cold showers, and the Deluxe, as well as One Bedroom Suite also have a bathtub.

TIP: you can book discounted rates depending on the hotel’s occupancy, and I heard that it can go as low as in the 2000's range. :D 

They have a pool, kiddie pool and you can also do your workout routine in their Fitness Center complete with weights and workout machines like treadmill. You can also bond with your family and friends over some baskets at the hotel's basketball area. They also have a large function room that can cater up to 350 people, ideal for groups, business  or MICE conventions, and, special celebrations like debuts or weddings.

They have a cafe where you can get your breakfast buffet style. They have a rotating menu for breakfast, and on some days, they even serve Lamayo, a delicacy in Palawan akin to a wet danggit, as it is marinated in a spicy vinegar/pepper mix, which turns out not too salty and is fried to perfection. 

"Given that Sotogrande Hotel is located inside Catalina Lake Residences, in the near future, our guests will also enjoy free access to the clubhouse, lake catalina, and the lighthouse. What to do near Sotogrande Palawan

You have to book Sotogrande Palawan, especially if you are thinking about doing a Honda Bay Tour to really maximize your day. The hotel can also fix up a packaged tour to Honda Bay for you, which includes transport, boat tour, and lunch. 

Or you can sign up for a customized tour once you are there, and just have lunch over in Starfish Island or Cowrie Island. With it being 1 KM away from said bay, we went for it, and it was my first time there.

We went to Starfish Island, a well timed tour around Luli Island and ate lunch at Cowrie Island, enjoyed their shakes and took some time to swim. It was pretty exciting despite the drizzle when we went. Other activities you can do include the Puerto Princesa Underground River tour and Puerto Princesa city tour.
